RUNNING FOR ELLIE'S FUND

There are always several runs being planned:

Sarah Dowey is running the London Marathon 2012 for Ellie's Fund. If you would like to sponsor her you can do so through her charity giving page: www.charitygiving.co.uk/sarahdowey

16 year old David Sessions would have initially liked to run a Marathon equivalent, but after seeking medical advice is now doing a half marathon for Ellie's Fund. He will start from Ravenscar Tea Rooms and finishing at the Spa in Scarborough on March 24th 2012, starting at 10am. David thinks that it will take him about 3 - 4 hours to complete. His aim is to raise £2000. David's fundraising page is www.charitygiving.co.uk/whitbytoscarboroughScarborough Pirates Cask Carry Challenge Albert Drive and Marine Drive, Scarborough on Sunday April 1st at 10am.
Last year Scarborough Pirates ARLFC held a balloon launch for Ellie's Fund. Through selling balloons, and collections at matches, they raised over £600. This year they have set themselves a challenge - they intend to carry 9 gallon casks full of water (not beer!) around Albert Drive and Marine Drive in teams of 4 x 10 groups.

 March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month in the UK and on Friday 30th (or a date to suit you) Ellie’s Fund – Brain Tumour Trust will be encouraging as many businesses, organisations and places of learning as possible to wear a hat and make a donation as part of the ‘Wear a Hat Day’ campaign that aims to raise awareness of brain tumours and bring in funds for vital research.

Celebrating the 1st Birthday of 'Red Cherry Music' (and Sam's Birthday) £127 raised.

Fundraising: At the same time we will be helping raise cash for our favourite local

Candles will be lit during the carol service at St Mary’s Church, Cloughton on December 10th. The service starts at 6.30pm – everyone welcome.

The last date for dedications is Thursday December 8th. Dedications will be displayed on the alter at St Mary's during the carol service and will remain in the church until the New Year.

Organised by Ellie's Fund Youth Committee; this is one for the teenagers.

WTH stands for 'What The Hell' - the party at which you wear the craziest outfit you can find. (what the hell have you come as?!)

Dry bar - no alcohol will be permitted or sold on the premises during the party.

Tickets must be bought in advance - there will be no door sales.

ELLIE'S BIRTHDAY BIKE RIDE - Sunday 18th September Raised in excess of £389

This year it is a walk instead of a ride - giving more people accessibility to take part!

Registration for the walk is £1 per person, we also ask you to raise sponsorship. Sponsorship forms are available to print off from the top of this page. Registration can be done on the website from September 1st, or on arrival.

The starting point is The Sands, round Royal Albert Drive and along Foreshore Road to the Spa roundabout, turn right and go up to the next roundabout and turn right up Vernon Road. Left at the roundabout up Somerset Terrace, then right all the way along Northway, down Columbus Ravine and back to The Sands to finish.

Bike Ride Along The Old Railway Track - 10th September 10.30am Raised £770.50

When the Royal Engineers Association, Scarborough Branch heard that there is no Ellie's Fund bike ride this year, they decided that there should be, and organised this event for Ellie's Fund.

Meet at  the corner of Field Close Road and Station Road, Scalby (where the old railway track crosses over from Newby) between 10.30 and 11am.

Enjoy a leisurely ride along the old track up to Hayburn Wyke and back - or even up to Ravenscar and back.

SCALBY METHODIST CHURCH COFFEE MORNING - September 3rd

Each month Scalby Methodist Church have a charity coffee morning - this month was for Ellie's Fund. The lovely ladies who run the event helped to raise £150.

Saturday 3rd to Sunday 4th September. 2 days touring the Dales around 3 great Gig Venues.

1. Saturday 3rd Sept - Lunch time gig - 1pm - at the 'Foresters Arms', Grassington.
Drink beer, take a stroll, have some lunch, shop, enjoy the gig at this lovely pub.

2. Saturday 3rd September - MAIN GIG, 7pm until late - 'Medieval' 'Cruck Barn' at the 'Craven Arms', Appletreewick.
Beautiful thatched barn and pub.

Awesome restored priory in beautiful Bolton Abbey ruins. Amazing acoustics!! Enjoy Bolton abbey, pub, walk, enjoy!

The best beer, scenery, beautiful people and beautiful live and original acoustic music......bliss!

A HAND CAR WASH - £660 raised.

Ellie's Fund Youth Committee and friends will be donning their rubber gloves and sponges on Saturday 6th August to wash cars for a day at Stoneacre Ford, Scarborough.

We will be there from 10am until 5pm.

Put it in your diary to bring your car for a hand wash - suggested minimum donation £5 per car.

The girls will also be baking buns/cakes for you to buy and eat while you wait, and there will be a tombola and Ellie's Fund merchandise available to buy too!

SCARBOROUGH PIRATES.COM - balloon launch competition

The last rugby league game of the season is on Saturday July 30th at Eastway Sports this year. At 2pm Ellie's Fund Youth Committee members will release balloons to mark the start of a competition and raise funds for Ellie's Fund.

The balloons were all numbered, and the person whose balloon travels the furthest away from the starting point (Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England) by September 30th 2011 will WIN £150 worth of high street shopping vouchers courtesy of Heineken UK. Over £622 raised by the Pirates

60's reunion party - Friday 3rd June at The Spa, from 7.30pm. Ellie's Fund had a tombola table at the event, the proceeds of which will go to the Fund.. £317 raised

PAMPERED CHEF EVENING

As part of their Ellie's Fund year, Skylark Day Nursery, Murray Street, Scarborough, hosted this cooking evening on Tuesday May 10th at 7.30pm.

Pampered Chef evenings are usually pretty good fun and very informative - I always come away with at least one new meal time idea for the family, as well as a smile!

If you couldn't make the evening but are interested in Pampered Chef you can request a catalogue through Skylark. Any sales made from these catalogues and also those from the evening will see a % coming to Ellie's Fund. TEL: Skylark 375757

SWIM TO THE STARS  £1000 was raised through this event!

Swim to the Stars was set up by Kylie Leggett and some friends from University as part of their course.
It took place at Braeburn Community Primary School in the hall and swimming pool on April 11th 2011 from 10 am until 5 pm. As well as the sponsored swim there was also a mini fete with competitions, games, stalls, refreshments and DJ Dave Marshall providing entertainment.
David Sessions of Scalby School made and sold buns on Valentine's Day in memory of Ellie. He raised over £300.

In December 2010 Scarborough Swimming Club arranged a sponsored swim. In spite of the freezing weather several of their members turned out and swam for an hour or more! They also made and sold buns and held a raffle.

Balloon release in memory of Ellie.

In February it will be one year since Ellie lost her battle. In memory of her and all the others like her, we have chosen February 5th for a balloon release. If you would like us to release a balloon for you or your loved one we will happily do so. The cost of this is £5 which will pay for your balloon, the helium, and a  message of your choice, which we will post on our blog after the event. This 'event' can be purchased through our shop- just leave your message as you pay for your balloon please.

DEDICATE A CHRISTMAS CANDLE

On Saturday December 4th there was a carol service at St Mary's church, Cloughton, Scarborough at 6PM During the service we will be lit candles in memory of, or dedicated to anyone who would like to. We decided to play Scalby School's version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow whilst the candles were being lit. This is a 'vrtual' event. Anyone, worldwide is welcome to take part again next year - we hope.

Held a fun day on November 29th and raised £821 for Ellie's Fund.

17TH & 18TH SEPTEMBER 2010 AND  at Scarborough Spa. 7-30pm Tickets are £20, available through the Spa or from the website - www.foggyand whit.co.uk  Opinionated and hilarious, this is four-times World Superbike champion, Carl Fogarty, with friend and former British champ, TV pundit James Whitham, at their irreverent best - live and uncut. During the interval there will be a raffle - all the proceeds of which will come to Ellie's Fund.  £1878 WAS RAISED OVER TWO NIGHTS FROM THIS RAFFLE - & THE SHOW ITSELF WAS EXCELLENT! ELLIE'S BIRTHDAY BIKE RIDE

It's time for me to tell you about, and invite you to join, Ellie's Fund's latest event - our biggest to date.
 
In 2008 Ellie chose to cycle around Scarborough's Marine Drive as part of her 'raise £4000 for charity' bid. She succeeded, and far exceeded her goal, raising almost £10 000 over the course of 3 days in spite of being at the end of a chemotherapy cycle.
 
In honour of Ellie, and to celebrate her birthday, this year we are replicating her idea.
 
ELLIE'S BIRTHDAY BIKE RIDE 2010 takes place on Sunday 12th September.
 You do not have to raise sponsorship, but we recommend a minimum donation of £10 or minimum sponsorship of £10 to be part of this event please.
 
WE'D LOVE IT IF EVERYONE COULD WEAR A BRIGHT COLOUR FOR THIS EVENT. Ellie's Fund colours are orange, blue/purple and pink. How fabulous will the photos look if we're all wearing Ellie's Fund colours!
 
'LADS AGAINST DADS' FUTSAL MATCH'  Raised £268.
The manager of Manor FC, a local futsal side, is organising a charity match to support Ellie's Fund.  It is on the 28th August - at  Scarborough Sports Centre... Kick off is at 10am. The match is an hour long, and there will be refreshments and trophies given in the bar afterwards. Ellie's Fund will be there to support the players - why not pop along too, and show your support to the people who are supporting us?

THURSDAY JULY 15TH - CASTLE FOOT SWIM
Two of Ellie's close friends are swimming the Castle Foot. This one and a half mile sea swim has seen the girls training hard for several weeks in cold water, in preparation for the cold of the sea! Jenna raised over £500. Harriet raised £320. WELL DONE girls.
